Stay Here: Northern CA π
Hello, Ophelia and Michelle here! We're so excited to be sending out our very first newsletter and are honored you trusted us enough to subscribe already. Searching for these special stays and setting up this newsletter has been the most fulfilling process. We hope you love looking at these places as much as we love delivering them to you!
If you have any feedback, houses youβd like to share, or cities you want to see featured in our newsletter, you can reply to us at stayhere@substack.com.
Now without further ado, after some organization, multiple drafts, and thoughtful selection, hereβs our first newsletter featuring a place close to our hearts: Northern California. Each home is within a 3-4 hour drive from the Bay Area. Enjoy~
The Ranch House at Sea Ranch
Sea Ranch, CA
From ~$586/night, sleeps 4
View stay
Designed by Alta Projects, found on IG. Dreaaaamy.
We are obsessed with those green chairs from Industry West.
These perfect green cabinets are giving us very Dakota Johnson kitchen/limes vibes from her viral Architectural Digest home tour (but did yβall see sheβs actually allergic to limes? π )
The Poet's Loft
Tomales Bay, Marshall, CA
From ~$365/night, $375-395/night for Holiday weekends, sleeps 4
View stay
Ophelia found this house from the book Creativity Inc. The author, Ed Catmull (co-founder of Pixar), references coming here for off-sites, so she looked it up and fell in love immediately. Something to note: You have to email them to view availability and book.
Vineyard Retreat with Spa and Pool
Occidental, CA
From ~$332/night, sleeps 2
View stay
We love this ceiling lamp β anyone know where it might be from?
This pool overlooking the vineyard looks divine.
White Water Cambria
Cambria, CA
From ~$314/night
View stay
Ophelia's dear friend Alice showed her this beautiful hotel that was remodeled and reopened in the latter half of 2020. They booked a stay for last December but canceled the trip when COVID cases were rising. We're oogling over that couch and are hopeful to book again soon!
We love how they use texture on the walls β the macrame, the slatted wood wall... it feels very natural and beachy without hitting you over the head with it.
Honorable mentions
This gorgeous lodge in San Luis Obispo (From ~$200/night), a recommendation from our friend Bekah. The price point and furniture selection are on point, not to mention they carry Aesop bathroom products.
An eco-luxury farmhouse oasis (From ~$328/night) with a pool and sauna? Sign me up.
This tiny house in a water tower (From ~$198/night) looks so serene. It's tucked away in the redwoods in Elk and looks magical.
The views from this Mendocino lighthouse retreat (From ~$329/night) speak for themselves.
No Bay Area getaways list is complete without the Timber Cove Resort (From ~$450/night) on the Sonoma coastline. A splurge, but could be great for a special occasion.
Currently loving...
The renderings of designer and illustrator Jessica Hische's new place. It's been fun to watch their home renovation progress on this IG.
This Sonoma county wineryβs Scandinavian design makeover.
A New Mexico Ranch designed by fashion designer Raquel Allegra.
Handmade chocolates that look like art. Michelle has tasted these first-hand and can confirm they're also delicious!
